Washing Instructions
Your first washing: When you first take your diapers home wash them several times in hot water to remove the oils on the cloth so the diaper will be absorbent.
Washing routine: This is based on my own personal routine. You will find what works best for you and your family. You may use this as a guideline.
- Wash your diapers about every other day depending on how many cloth diapers you have in your rotation and how many babies you are diapering.
- Pre-wash in cold water if you breastfeed or if do not get the entire poop off diaper. This will prevent stains from setting. If you use a diaper sprayer or liners you will not need to do this.
- Use the hottest setting on your machine when you wash.
- Make sure you have lots of water in the machine so that the diapers have room to swish around. If you have an HE machine, check to see if you are able to increase the water level. If not, don‘t worry about it.
- Use about ¼ the amount of detergent for the size load you are washing.
- Do not use fabric softener or detergent with softener in it.
- Let the machine do the work.
- After the full cycle is complete, turn the machine on again at the hottest setting and same water level. Look in the machine during this cycle to see if you are still having suds.
- If you see suds you may want to do another rinse cycle. Suds left on cloth diapers are not a good thing. They can build up and create a residue that will prevent them from absorbing. (But don’t worry this is something that can be fixed.)
Drying Routine:
- Put your diapers in the dryer or line dry.
- Do not use dryer sheets in the dryer with your diapers.
- If you are using pocket diapers, let the diaper cool off before stuffing them. This will help save the elastic from getting stretched out too quickly.
